After School Magic

School’s out. Time to shuffle up!

After School Magic is a free, relaxed Magic: The Gathering session created especially for kids, teens and young players to meet, play and enjoy Magic with others around their own age.

Whether you’ve been playing for years, have just built your first deck, or are completely new to Magic, you’re welcome at the table.

There’s no tournament, rankings or competitive pressure. Come along for some casual games, practise your skills, try something new, meet other young Magic players and maybe make some new friends along the way.

New to Magic?

Absolutely welcome!

You don’t need tournament experience or an encyclopaedic knowledge of the rules to join in. Our team can help with rules questions, finding an opponent and getting games started.

If you’re still learning, After School Magic is a great way to get more comfortable playing with different people before jumping into larger events like Friday Night Magic or Commander Club.

Don’t Have a Deck? No Problem!

You’re welcome to bring your own Magic deck, but you don’t need one to join in.

We have a collection of preconstructed Commander and Standard decks available to borrow and play while you’re in store, as well as a Jumpstart Beginner Box that’s fantastic for learning the game or trying something different.

That means there are plenty of ways to experiment with Magic, try different styles of play and discover what you enjoy before worrying about building or buying your own deck.

Already have a favourite deck? Bring it along! Commander, Standard and other casual decks are welcome.

Parents & Guardians

Parent or guardian supervision is required throughout the event.

After School Magic is a free community play session rather than a supervised child-care program. Parents and guardians must remain at Dragon’s Gate Gaming and be responsible for supervising their young person.

You’re welcome to pull up a chair, have a game yourself, browse the store or relax nearby while they play.
